Prof. Holger Grüll research on hyperthermia in oncology honored

ESHO Pyrexar Award

From 06 to 09 October 2021, the joint congress of the International (13th Congress of ICHO) and European Society for Oncological Hyperthermia (34th Congress of ESHO) took place online. Results from preclinical and clinical research on the application of hyperthermia in oncology were discussed at this world's largest symposium on thermal therapy methods.
Prof. Dr. Holger Grüll, Institute for Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology at the University Hospital of Cologne, was honored at this congress with the ESHO Pyrexar Award for his outstanding scientific work in this field of research. In the course of his scientific career, Prof. Grüll has contributed significantly to the research and clinical translation of magnetic resonance-guided high-intensity focused ultrasound (MR-HIFU), which can be used for local and non-invasive ablation of tissue. Particular contributions include research into new applications of the MR-HIFU technique in ablation, hyperthermia, and hyperthermia-induced local chemotherapy.
It was particularly emphasized during the tribute that Professor Grüll's research contributions are characterized by special interdisciplinarity and range from technology development, chemistry and biology to clinical translation in clinical trials that are now starting.
